Last weekend I went back to London to visit my family and my boyfriend, but mostly so I could go see Jack Whitehall on tour at the SSE Wembley Arena! Before the performance I wandered around some of London’s best known sights in the South and discovered lots of buildings and cool alleys I had never seen before. It’s amazing what you can see if you really pay attention to your surroundings (I have twice mistaken the London Eye for some mysterious new London development. Both mistakes were made on the same day in quick succession – I’m a Londoner I swear!). I rarely post photos of myself on my blog, let alone a whole post full of them, so now you’re in for a treat😉 Have a little scroll and see if you recognise any of these locations…
When River Island contacted me saying they’d like to collaborate, I was beyond ecstatic. Gifted clothes are literally the dream. But then of course I had the tough choice of picking what I actually wanted. I’m a fairly lazy person when it comes to fashion and tend to only wear about 5 different outfits on repeat for weeks. When I get bored of these or a new trend appears, I splurge on a some new items and the cycle repeats again with another 5 outfits. In the end then, I opted for some everyday items that can be worn again and again: a coat, a scarf and a necklace.
I’m completely obsessed with fur and all things fluffy so of course I opted for this navy faux fur collar swing coat. I actually already have a very similar coat in a light nude colour though and another longer version in camel that I got for Christmas only a few weeks before! You can never have too many coats right?!
When I first picked the plaid scarf out it was actually because I thought it might just look nice as a prop in my Instagram pics (lol). It actually turned out to be incredibly soft and really, really lovely. I love the plaid pattern too as it makes my outfit a little bit more interesting to look at when I’m wearing block colours (i.e. everyday). My wardrobe is mostly made up of navy, grey and black so this scarf offers a welcome dash of colour.
I’ve literally worn this coat/scarf combo every day since they arrived on my doorstep because they go with pretty much everything else in my wardrobe. The navy coat is perfect for both a dressed down and dressed up look so I’ve been wearing it day and night to a whole variety of different events. The fur collar is detachable but I think it adds a lot to a fairly simple coat so I prefer to wear it with the faux fur attached.
Now let’s all laugh at my awkward outfit posing and think about how much I’m mentally floundering while they’re being taken.
Now let’s not forget the smaller details! Also included in my River Island haul was this simple, black velvet choker necklace. You’d have to have been living under a rock for this trend to have passed you by. There are so many different types out there now with different materials, different thicknesses, different embellishments etc, but you can never go wrong with simple black. Super easy to attach yourself and it doesn’t irritate the neck at all – perfect for pretty much any outfit but I’ll mostly be wearing mine when I’m dressed up for a night out or some sort of event.
Voilà! My first outfit post complete 💁 Do let me know what you think about this outfit in the comments below and tell me which item is your favourite! Which trends are you obsessed with this spring? 🌸
