Daniel Wellington is a watch brand that has been on a going from strength to strength since it’s creation back in 2011. This Swedish brand, which aims to provide minimalist and elegant timepieces, has quickly become a leading watch brand, that has kickstarted the minimalist watch trend. You’d be hard-placed to find a blogger or Instagrammer who doesn’t already own or crave a Daniel Wellington watch and being the sheep that I am, I can now count myself amongst those bloggers.

I couldn’t have been more happy when Daniel Wellington agreed to collaborate with me on this blog post and I quickly set to work on choosing which of their watches would most suit me. The brand now has several different collections with a variety of different straps and watch faces. I had to decide: leather or nato? The latter is what inspired the founder of Daniel Wellington in the first place and they are stripey material straps that come in a variety of colours. I really wanted the ‘Oxford’ strap, which is navy and red, but I thought something more classic would be of more use in my wardrobe. In the end I opted for the ladies Classic Sheffield 36mm watch, which is a silver faced watch with a black leather strap. When in doubt, always choose black. Right?
My delivery arrived within 6 days of placing despatch, which was four working days if we exclude the weekend. I thought this was very good timing for a very large watch company and I was happy to receive my new watch promptly. Daniel Wellington ships their watches with UPS so you can track your delivery all the way from Sweden. UPS is always very accurate about when their parcels will be delivered but if you want to change the delivery date to another time to suit you, that’s also possible.
Daniel Wellington stick to their minimalist roots at every stage of the process. The packaging is plain and elegant, the instructions are simple. These watch don’t come laden with complicated (and often useless) advice about the watch or the brand. The watch comes in a slim leather box that should fit through most letterboxes so you shouldn’t have to worry about staying in to wait for your delivery. Inside the box you’ll find your new and shiny watch, a Daniel Wellington manual and a tiny tool to use if you ever want to change the straps of your watch.
Each and every watch has interchangeable straps so you can customise your watch however you want. There are many material straps (nato straps) to choose from, which include colours: navy, light blue, pink, white and red. However, I’ve always been a fan of the leather watches, which come in several different shades of brown and black with a silver or rose gold plated brace. As I said, I opted for the ladies Classic Sheffield 36mm, which is pictured below.
As you can see, the Classic watch face is very plain and simple – there isn’t even a second hand! There are no numbers, just lines, but more importantly, there’s nothing fancy to distract your eye. It is incredibly lightweight too, which I really love after years of wearing a weighty metal Ice Watch. The watch face is very thin, but is made of a strong metal so I’m not at all worried about accidentally damaging it.
The watch face comes in two different sizes, 36mm or 40mm, and most ladies will go for the former. The 36mm version is perfect for my wrist, any bigger and I think it would look a little odd. I have fairly small wrists I tend to do this up on the last or second to last hole on the strap. If you really, really tiny wrists, you may find that you need to have an extra hole punched in for you.
Daniel Wellington watches are sleek and classy, perfect for a young professional. I am by no means a fashion blogger, but I thought I’d have some fun styling my new watch. As I said, black is my go-to colour as it makes coordinating outfits so much easier. Here, I paired my DW watch with black skinny jeans (Topshop), a white shirt (Topshop), a small black cross body bag (Sandro) and some nude heels (Ted Baker). Black, black, errday!
All in all, I absolutely love my new Daniel Wellington watch. It’s classy and elegant and the classic black and silver combo goes with everything in my wardrobe.Dress it up, dress it down, these really are the most versatile watches out there. If you don’t already have one, you should make a minimalist watch one of your wardrobe staples as it is both fashionable and super useful. We’ll have to see whether this watch stands the test of time but from what I’ve read on other blogs, these watches are durable too.
