I can’t believe it’s already 2016, but here I am, back in Paris after a much needed 2 week break at home in London. In 2015 I finished my second year of university and then pretty swiftly packed up and moved to Paris. There, I completed a five and a half month internship at a social media company, which is the longest I’ve ever worked full time and learnt a lot. I’m still not sure if the world of social media is for me, but it’s certainly an interesting area to work in and be a part of at the moment so overall I’m still pretty happy with the outcome of my first six months in Paris. My French has improved considerably but not quite as much as I would have liked but hopefully the next 5 months will sort that out (fingers crossed). I made a grand total of two French friends though I’m still not sure whether I should be proud or ashamed of that figure. My second internship starts tomorrow (eek!), and I’m hoping it’ll be more stimulating than the last. This time I’ll be an assistant social media consultant so I should have more responsibility than at the last and as the company is a lot bigger, the projects may have greater reach. I’m both really excited and really nervous about this new job as I have absolutely no idea what to expect – I just hope my French holds up! Wish me luck…
In terms of blogging, I’ve had a pretty good year. As mentioned above, I spent a considerable amount of time at my internship being idle, which meant there was lots of time for blogging and research. 2015 was my most profitable year of blogging and I worked with some pretty cool brands such as Moët & Chandon and Beanies Co., which is more than I could’ve hoped for. I didn’t reach my Instagram target of 5k followers, but we’re getting there and with a bit of dedication, I’m hoping to reach 15k by the end of 2016. The annoying thing about being in Paris is that I’ve had to skip out on lots of cool blogger meet-ups and opps that are based in the UK, but hopefully I’ll be able to attend more events this summer. I was also nominated as one of the top lifestyle bloggers of 2015 by The Bloggers’ Lounge, and the results of that competition will be announced later this month!
So a few goals for the year ahead…
1. Reach 15k Followers on Instagram
Perhaps a bit ambitious, but if I work hard on taking better photos and interacting with other users more, I’m hoping this could become a reality! Check out my account @whatshotblog! #shamelesspromotion
2. Write at least 12 book reviews
Those who have been following this blog for a long time will know that this used to be a book blog. As I’ve grown up I’ve started to write about lots of other things and What’s Hot? is now more of a lifestyle and culture blog but I’d still like to keep up my non-academic reading and reviewing. I read a dismal 13 books last year and not all of them were reviewed, so I really need to get back on track…
3. Earn more money than last year
Ambitious given that my second internship is likely to be much more demanding and I will be returning to uni for finals in the second half of the year – but a girl can dream.
What do you want to achieve in 2016?
