For some reason, I haven’t felt particularly excited about Christmas this year and I just haven’t been able to get into the Christmas spirit. Despite listening to Christmas songs and watching Love Actually, I just wasn’t in the mood.
I had just assumed I wasn’t getting a Christmas present this year because my parents bought me a Canon 100D in the summer for blogging as a very early ‘Christmas present’ but a few days ago my mum asked me where my Christmas list was and my hope was renewed…
In the end I got a pretty good Christmas haul, almost entirely made up of items that I had actually wanted beforehand, which has never happened to me before! Now I’ve never done a haul on my blog before so I don’t really know what how to proceed but here’s what I got…
1. Dior Little Luxuries Gift Set
My current perfume is Miss Dior and I really like all of Dior’s other scents too so I was really excited to receive this little gift set. Inside is a miniature version of j’adore, Hypnotic Poison, Dior Addict 2 and Miss Dior Chérie. They’re honestly the most adorable little bottles in the world and I’m glad that I can now mix up which perfumes I use for special occasions.
2. Harry Potter Colouring Book
If you’ve read my two Christmas gift guides this year, one for Instagram lovers, one for bookish people, you’ll know that I desperately wanted a colouring book this year, specifically the Harry Potter one, and lo and behold – there was one waiting for me under the tree this year! My friend actually gave this to be before I wrote my bookish gift guide so evidently she’s psychic…
It’s quite a thick book full of pages ready to be coloured in. There are scenes from all 7 Harry Potter books as well as house crests and Potterish patterns. At the back of the book there are some pictures and illustrations from the films to inspire you too.
3. Dairy Milk Winter Edition
This may seem like a perfectly insignificant gift to most of you but when you’ve been living in a foreign country without Dairy Milk for the past 6 months, this seems like a Christmas miracle!
4. Harry Potter Illustrated Edition
This has been out for a while now and I’m so ashamed that I’ve only just got my hands on it! This is the only thing that I actually asked for this Christmas but after having a nose around under the tree, I was convinced that my parents had forgotten about it – as per usual, I was wrong. This is honestly the most beautiful book I have ever held and I’m so excited to relive the first Harry Potter story with the added illustrations!
5. Guys and Dolls and other stories by Damon Runyon
My parents actually have no idea that Guys and Dolls is my favourite play but they gave me a copy of the original short story and the other stories that accompany it. From a quick glance it looks like each story is only a few pages long, which is a little perplexing, but it’s considered a Penguin Classic so hopefully it’ll be a good read.
6. Lonely Planet’s Best Ever Photography Tips
All my friends know that I’m absolutely obsessed with Instagram (embarrassingly so), and having acquired a DSLR a few months ago, I’ve been trying (and failing) to teach myself to take really great photos. Hopefully this little book of tips will improve the quality of my photos (you guys can be the judges!) and I’ll actually learn how to use my camera! The tips are quite short and sweet but I’ve already learned quite a lot of stuff about critiquing your own photos that I didn’t know before.
7. Decorative Book Labels
Don’t ever try to borrow a book from me. I have a strict list of guidelines that must be adhered to, most importantly, not bending the spine, and most of my friends get too annoyed with me to bother asking anymore. Now I can make extra sure that nobody ‘borrows’ a book and doesn’t give it back with these beautiful decorative labels. They’re basically giant stickers that you stick in the front of your book, marking it as yours. These will be going straight into my favourite reads!
This is definitely the most thoughtful of all the presents I’ve received this year (/in my life ever). As most of you know I’ve spent the past 6 months working in Paris as part of my year abroad and so my lovely boyfriend put together a scrapbook of pictures and memories since we first met in a sweaty club in Freshers Week.
9. Tickets to see Guys and Dolls at the Savoy Theatre
So this was a gift that came quite late on Christmas Day and was a last minute decision. When I realised that Guys and Dolls is actually already on at the Savoy Theatre, I got straight onto the booking website to see if there are any tickets left before I go back to Paris. They were all rather expensive but I thought I’d give lastminute.com a try and much to my joy, there were loads of reasonably priced tickets left for the rest of December. I snagged tickets for Boxing Day evening (tonight!) and I’m so excited for all the singing and dancing!
10. Michael Kors Bag
Aand the most exciting (and unexpected) present has to be this Michael Kors bag! I’ve wanted a new handbag for ages but was determined to get a really good one in a classic style that will last for ages, but with funds lacking I have not been able to realise this dream myself. Whilst doing a spot of Christmas shopping, I thought I’d have a nose round the Michael Kors in Covent Garden with no intention of buying anything – so of course, I bought something. There happened to be a mini sale going on in store so I managed to get myself a fairly good deal on this bag (courtesy of my mum). The pompom is from Topshop and satisfies my obsession with all things fluffy!
Full unboxing to come later!
So I think we can all agree that I’ve been well and truly spoiled this year by my family, friends, family friends and boyfriend. What I thought was going to be a pretty meh Christmas turned out to be a great day with family and friends. I hope that everyone else got what they wished for, ate a lot of food and had a great time with their families!
What did everyone else get this year? 🙂
