Summer may be drawing to a close but I still can’t get summer off my mind… You might have heard people tell you that travel broadens the mind. And yes, this is very true. Whether you’re traveling to the Maldives, France or Dubai, you’ll definitely broaden your mind.
But there are so many other reasons why travel is important too.
Okay, most people tend to focus on the enriching of the soul, etc. But, how about the things no one ever talks about? Well, that’s where I come in. I’m going to give you some important reasons why I think travel matters. And they will be reasons you might not have considered before.
Think about it, you go on holiday with friends or family. You’re spending a week or so living on top of each other, sharing all these experiences. This is a great way to help you bond and deepen your relationships. I have always found that I feel closer to someone after holidaying with them. It’s like we share a special bond across countries and continents. A bond that can’t be broken by anyone. And this is one of the most awesome things about going traveling with other people.
And this brings me onto my next point about travel – it’s amazing for making memories. Whether you’re abroad with friends, lovers or family, every experience builds a memory. The stressful rush to the airport. The cramped plane ride. The dash to the hotel. Climbing a mountain, crossing a river, sampling new foods. It all builds memories that you’ll be able to look back on with fondness. And, someday, when you may not see some of these people anymore, you can look back on the amazing time you had.
I would say that perhaps the best thing travel offers us is an education on the move. As humans we’re always learning, every single day. And we always find out new things that might change our perspective on life. See, the world doesn’t work the same everywhere you go. And if you’ve never been out of your hometown travel can be a real eye opener. Checking out this site on Africa, for instance, may whet your appetite. It might convince you that you want to go and experience things for yourself. Because this is the best way to have experiences and learn about these places. You’ll find out things you never knew, and you may well look at life a little differently afterwards. I’m currently on my year abroad in Paris and aside from learning French (ish), I’m learning so much about different cultures and just life.
Do you know what I love about travel? The spontaneity of it all. Let’s be honest, life is too short so we need to make the most of it. And travel helps us embrace our spontaneous nature, and makes us open to new experiences. This is a vital part of life and growth in my opinion. Going traveling really helps us to open ourselves up to new things, and not overthink stuff all the time. Doing is much better than talking about doing; and this is something I feel travel has helped me with a lot.
So, there you have it, travel plays a much bigger role in our lives than we perhaps thought. It’s easy to look at a holiday as nothing more than a relaxing time away. But, in reality, there are so many more things we can take and earn from being abroad. Hopefully, you will bear these in mind next time you decide to travel.
