This summer has gone so fast, in just a few weeks university will be starting up again. It seems like only yesterday that we broke up for summer – time flies when you’re soaking up the sun.
As classes will begin once again, in only a couple of weeks, I thought that I would put together a handy post about being more organised. As a student and a busy blogger, for me, organisation is crucial. If I want to ensure that I make every class, get all my assignments in, and still have time for blogging and a social life, I need to be organised.
Whether you are a student, a blogger, an intern, or anyone with lots of commitments, organising your life is important. If you are determined to manage your responsibilities in more a structured way, you have come to the right place.
I’ve found over the past few years of study, that keeping on top of everything can be easy. Intrigued? Yes – them make sure to keep reading, for everything that you need to know.
Utilise your smartphone
Today, everyone has a smartphone, but many of us fail to utilise them. Whether you have an iPhone, a Blackberry or an HTC, you need to be taking full of advantage of all of its features. Of all the things that can help to boost your organisation levels, a smartphone is one of the best.
Use your calendar to set up alerts for classes, meetings and events. Download a daily planner app, and use it to plan out each section of your day. There are lots of planning apps that you can choose from. However, Planner Plus is one of the best options, so make sure to check this out. Add a to-do list app to your phone, so that you can create an easy to access list of everything that you need to do.
Keep track of the time
Have you ever sat down in Starbucks with a latte, relaxed, checked the time and realised you had been there for over two hours? Time passes so quickly. It’s easy to fall into the trap of losing minutes, and even hours, sitting around doing nothing.
If you want to make sure that you keep up to date with everything that you need to do, tracking time is a must. ‘What exactly does tracking time mean?’, I can hear you thinking. It’s just a fancy way of saying checking the time, and trying not to waste it by sipping lattes in your favourite coffee house.
What’s the best way to keep track of the time? Wearing a watch, of course. 15 years ago, everyone wore watches; they were essential, as not every had mobile phones, to rely on. You might not normally wear a watch, but if you want to keep on top of things, it’s a must.
If you don’t own a watch, now is the time to invest. Have a look at Daniel Wellington watches, as there are lots of designs to choose from, so there should be something that takes your fancy. Trust me, with a watch on your wrist, you’ll find it much easier to keep track of the time.
Buy a planner
Yes, you could just use your smartphone as your planner. But there’s something about having a traditional planner that makes it easier to keep track of things. Well, for me, at least, it does.
You will find lots of different planner designs to choose from. While the style you opt for is up to you, I would recommend the Passion Planner. It’s a planner unlike any other; it has areas for everything from your upcoming appointments, to your thoughts. A little bit pricey, but a great buy if you want to manage your life a little better.
Being organised can be easy, you just need to follow the tips above. It can take time to get into a routine, but after a couple of weeks, you’ll find that managing your busy schedule is much less stressful.
