The 100 by Kass Morgan

Yay! I’ve finally gotten my hands on a copy of The 100 by Kass Morgan. I’m really looking forward to the television series of this book which is coming out later this year on The CW. I love the sorts of shows that are aired on The CW so I’m hoping that both the book and the television series live up to my expectations! Anyone else read this? What did yo think? Many thanks to Hodder & Stoughton for the review copy.

World War Z by Max Brooks
The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky
You can’t read this book by Nick Cohen
Where’d You Go, Bernadette by Maria Semple
The Teleportation Accident by Ned Beauman
The Second Sex by Simone de Beauvoir
I bought half of these from the Shakespeare and Company book store in Paris which was a-mazing (but seriously overpriced). When you buy a book from them they stamp your book with their very own Shakespeare and Company stamp which is oh so cool. I’ve finally got my own paperback of The Perks of Being a Wallflower! I just loved the cover of this one so I couldn’t resist getting a paperback. I’ve seen Where’d You Go Bernadette on so many other blogs but from reading the synopsis I don’t really see what the fuss is about. However, I do trust my fellow bloggers so I’m adding this to my TBR pile! I watched World War Z, a thoroughly awful movie, but I have been assured that the book is much, much better so I’ll give it a shot. You can’t read this book by Nick Cohen is a non-fiction book about whether we truly have the freedom of speech/thought etc on the Internet or whether the government is still censoring lots of things. The Teleportation Accident just has a really cool cover so I bought it, but I’ve also seen some pretty good reviews of it. The Second Sex by Simone de Beauvoir is on my university reading list (but in French, of course), but I bought the English version anyways (slacking, I know).

Boulle’s Jewels by Francis Boulle
The Burial at Thebes by Seamus Heaney
When God Was A Rabbit by Sarah Winman
Delirium by Lauren Oliver
I picked up these four books (and 16 other French books) at the charity this week and what a bargain! I bought 20 books for £11.50, though I’m pretty sure the checkout assistant made a mistake because I know these books are priced at £1 each minimum. I’m not complaining though! I’ve finally got my hands on Delirium by Lauren Oliver which many people are obsessed with. I also saw Boulle’s Jewels by Francis Boulle on the shelf and as a Made In Chelsea fan, I couldn’t resist. When God Was A Rabbit is something that people my age were reading several years ago but the cover is cute so I picked it up anyways. Then I saw a cool copy of The Burial at Thebes translated by Seamus Heaney, a poet who I studied in great detail at school so I thought hey, why not.

The Secret Agent by Joseph Conrad
Notebook by Penguin Library
I volunteered at Penguin UK’s ‘Wreck This’ Event, in order to promote Kerri Smith’s Wreck This Journal, and so they gifted me two books from their Penguin English Library Collection! I’ve never heard of The Secret Agent before but I know Conrad’s work is highly regarded so I’m hoping that’ll be book. The notebook will added to the massive pile of stationery that I’ve accumulated this summer, but I’m sure it’ll all come in handy at University!

Great books! The 100 sounds awesome and I seem to see it everywhere lately. Enjoy :)

    • Laura Hartley

It was a really great book, I'd definitely recommend it! Thanks for stopping by :)

  • Josephine

I've never heard of The 100 but I agree with you about the CW… I'll have to check it out. Just a note about 'The Second Sex', the English translation does not do the original justice. Unless its a new translation that just passed me by, you're better off ignoring most of it. I'm intrigued by all your french books though, do you review those here as well?

    • Laura Hartley

You should give it a read – it's really good! My copy says that it's a 'new' and 'improved' translation and it seems alright so far but who knows! No, I don't usually review French books here because most of the books I read are classics and I don't tend to review those. I'm starting to read some modern French fiction now though so you might be seeing some reviews of those :) Thanks for stopping by!

  • Ellie Warren

I loved World War Z (the book, I refuse to watch the film) and When God Was a Rabbit.

    • Laura Hartley

Haha that's what most fans of the book say! Thanks for stopping by :)

I'm so excited for The 100 as well! I definitely need to get my hands on the book before the TV show starts.
Delirium and Perks are both amazing! I loved them both :)
I actually really enjoyed the World War Z movie. I still haven't gotten around to reading the book though…
    Great haul! Happy reading :)

    • Laura Hartley

Wow you're the first person I've heard who has said that they enjoyed the film! I mean it wasn't quite as bad as people made it out to be but it wasn't that great either. Hope the book lives up to expectations!

      Thanks for stopping by 😀

  • Alex Sharrock

Delirium is amazing! I hope you enjoy it!

I saw an ad for The 100 – I look forward to your review on it as it looks amazing :')

I want to read World War Z so bad! :/ Apparently the film didn't live up to the book!

Thanks for stopping by chick! followed back xx

    • Laura Hartley

The film really wasn't very good but the reviews for the book are amazing so no, I don't think it lived up to the book! Definitely read The 100, it's a really good book with lots of plot twists and soon to be on our television screens! Thanks for following :)

  • Girl!Reporter

Great haul. I like the look of The 100, and like you I'm a fan of programmes on The CW, so I think I'll probably be watching that!

Thanks for stopping by earlier – I'm a new follower via Bloglovin'.

    • Laura Hartley

Definitely read The 100 before the TV show airs! From reading the synopsis on Wikipedia it looks like the TV show will be a little different from the book *sadface*

      Thanks for following!

I have Where'd you go Bernadette to read! I look forward to reading your thoughts!!

    • Laura Hartley

It doesn't look like my cup of tea, but the reviews are so good I picked up a copy anyways! Hope it lives up to our expectations :)

  • kelseysclutteredbookshelf

My fiance read World War Z and he really liked it. I've read Delirium, and it was ok, but I haven't read anything else on here. That's pretty cool that they stamp your books though! I do hope you enjoy everything. :)

    • Laura Hartley

Most people I've spoken to have said that Delirium is amazing – not just okay! Not sure if I'm going to enjoy it, but I hope I do. It is pretty awesome! Shame that the books are so pricey though :( Thanks for stopping by!

  • Veronica MostlyReviews

Great haul. I really want to watch and read The 100 and World War Z. Enjoy everything. :)

    • Laura Hartley

Definitely read The 100 before the TV series airs because it looks like there are some differences between the two!

  • Pili

    What a great haul!

I loved World War Z! It's completely different from the movie, and it's told in an unusual format.

    • Laura Hartley

Hmm interesting. I'm intrigued about this 'interesting format'. Wasn't very impressed by the film so I hope the book wins me over!

  • Aliaa El-Nashar

    Great Haul!
I'm personally dying for World War Z and Where'd you go Bernadette.
    Happy reading!

  • beccabooklover

I'm really excited about The 100! Will definitely be picking it up sometime soon! I have World War Z to read even though I've been told by a few people I might not enjoy it but we'll see. Perks was amazing I can't wait to get my hands on a physical copy! I still have to read Delirium! Great haul! :)

As an answer to your giveaway question I've read both Earth Girl and Earth Star and loved them both! The idea was so fun and original! I'd love to win a copy of Earth Star as I read it from Netgalley. Really looking forward to the next book! :)

    • Laura Hartley

The 100 was a really great read, I hope you enjoy it! World War Z isn't the type of book I normally read but after watching the film I wanted to see what the uproar about it being a terrible adaption was all about. I wasn't so big a fan of Earth Girl/Earth Star! They were both so-so books but I didn't feel any excitement whilst reading them :( Thanks for entering!

  • P.E. Mari

Great haul! I love the Penguin English Library covers, absolutely gorgeous. The 100 also looks awesome, I'll be keeping an eye out for it and it's tv show!
    Happy reading :)

Aren't they? I want to collect them all!! Definitely give The 100 a read, you won't regret it! Thanks for stopping by!

  • Rashika

I've heard good things about 100 except that it has a love triangle :/ That's why I am a little hesitant about reading it.
I really want to know what you have to say about Where'd you go Bernadette, I want to read it but I am not sure!! :)
    Great haul and Happy Reading
    -Rashika @ Tangled in Pages

    • Laura Hartley

Yeah the love triangle aspect was a bit annoying. Though, that isn't really a 'major' part of the story I don't think so I wouldn't let that put you off :)
      Thanks for stopping by!

  • Zarina

Wow, you had an amazing week! I love all your books. Where'd You Go, Bernadette? Is a really funny novel – definitely better than the blurb makes it out to be. I really enjoyed Delirium and When God was a Rabbit, and Perks and The 100 are on my to-read list.

I once saw the outside of Shakespeare and Company in Paris but it was so busy I didn't venture in! The stamps sound really cool though so next time I'm in Paris I'll have to actually go inside 😉

    • Laura Hartley

Ooh okay, I look forward to reading it then! You should read The 100 ASAP – it's a good book :)

Aww that's a shame!! It really is an awesome shop, though very pricey!

  • Beckie

You have some amazing books here! I'm looking forward to reading The Perks of being a Wallflower myself :)

    • Laura Hartley

The film was so good and the book must be better. I hope for our sakes it's really good!

  • Jasprit

This is a great haul! I really enjoyed Delirium and really need to get around to finishing the last book :( I also can't wait to read The Perks of Being a Wallflower! I hope you enjoy all your books! :)

    • Laura Hartley

Everyone's telling me how great Delirium is, I think I'm going to have to move it up my TBR pile! I'm soo excited for Perks – I don't think I've heard anything bad about it! Thanks for stopping by :)
